AGTI Intensive Training Program in Gestalt Therapy    
                                             

This program introduces participants to Gestalt Therapy Theory and practices which will enhance their existing therapy practice and/or deepen personal growth by emphasizing whole person awareness. This training is designed in a three year cycle plus an extended enrollment designed to deepen their mastery of Gestalt psychotherapy practice and professional development. Individuals can enroll at any stage and complete the training over the course of three years. Both established professionals and students are encouraged to apply.

Continuing Education Hours

The AGTI training program is eligible for up to 45 NBCC clock hours per year in person. The Appalachian Gestalt Therapy Institute has been approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No.6575.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Appalachian Gestalt Therapy Institute is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
These three-day intensive training events will encompass the following:

  1. An exploration into the heart of Gestalt Therapy and Many Processes of
    Gestalt Therapy as an Experiential Approach with Nicholas Emmanuel and Ernest McCoy....
    Some of the questions we will be exploring in an intimate and engaging manner:

    · What are the processes needed to learn Gestalt Therapy?
    · In Gestalt Therapy-Are there different processes for each individual?
    · How do we work with people that have different ideations of the living process? (Dealing with events and situations called life, in the here and now)
    · How do we assist people in owning their process without projecting onto them?
    · What does working with ego boundaries or developing an awareness of ego boundaries encompass?
    · How do cultural differences get taken into consideration in the practice of Gestalt therapy?
    · What am I doing with clients as a Gestalt Therapist? What am I doing with myself as Gestalt Therapist and how am I being different from other modalities?
    · When a Gestalt Therapist works from the ideation of the whole, are they aware of cultural differences?

These multi-day intensives into the basics of Gestalt therapy will focus on

  1. the mutual exploration of the evolving personhood of a Gestalt Therapist. Introducing Gestalt Therapy Theory and practices will enhance the participants’ existing therapy practice and/or deepen professional development by emphasizing whole person awareness.
The goals of this training are:
to teach the fundamental theory, concepts, and core values of Gestalt Therapy
· to enhance and expand participant’s existing therapy using the Gestalt approach
· to increase self-awareness in the Here-and-Now, and promote the ability to engage with others
· to explore styles of Gestalt Therapy as they emerge from the person of the therapist.
 
 
C: Growth Through Awareness of Body:  To accomplish the following objectives:
1. Develop an awareness from a Gestalt Perspective of how we are (or are not) aware of our bodily experiences in the moment.
2. Understand the differences between thinking and feeling and their intersection.
3. Gain awareness of how we disconnect from our bodily experiences.
4. Develop skills for connecting to our own bodily experiences, as well as, facilitating this process for our clients.
 
We will provide a compassionate place to explore awareness of our bodies as a way of gathering information concerning how we are living and being in the present moment. It will be didactic and experiential in nature. Participants are
